Your First Visit
Your first visit to the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre will typically be longer than your subsequent appointments.
Please be prepared for this visit to last 2 – 4 hours. During this time, our healthcare team will go over your medical history with you, and provide information to help you understand your treatment plan.

You may be coming to the Cancer Centre for a variety of reasons:

  • Consultation with an oncologist.
  • Treatment for cancer including chemotherapy or radiation.
  • Special procedures.
  • Supportive care.
  • Pain and symptom control.
  • Palliative care.
  • Follow-up care.

Please bring the following on your first visit:

  • Ontario Health Card (OHIP).
    • Red and white OHIP cards require that you bring either a photo ID, passport, permanent resident card or citizenship card.
  • Current medication in original containers (include prescription, over the counter and vitamin, mineral or herbal supplements).
  • Name, address and phone number of family doctor.
  • If you have a drug benefit plan, bring your card.
  • Name, address and phone number of your drug store.
  • A list of questions you want to ask your doctor or nurse.
  • A family member or friend.
  • Some money or credit card to pay for parking, purchase food or pay for prescriptions.
  • Food or snacks if desired.
  • Something to help pass the time while you wait.

Please bring the following on all return visits:

  • Ontario Health Card (OHIP).
    • Red and white OHIP cards require that you bring either a photo ID, passport, permanent resident card or citizenship card.
  • Your cancer centre appointment slip.
  • Your white binder.
  • A list of prescriptions that may require renewal from your oncologist.
  • Any medication you usually take during the day (i.e. blood pressure or pain medication).
  • A list of questions you want to ask your doctor or nurse.
  • A family member or friend.
  • Some money or credit card to pay for parking, purchase food or pay for prescriptions.
  • Food or snacks if desired.
  • Something to help pass the time while you wait.

*If any of your personal information changes (such as telephone number or family physician), please inform the clerk at the reception desk when you register.

Feedback & Questions

We believe that our services can only enhance and improve through our patient’s feedback. As you may have additional questions and concerns that arise during the course of your treatment, we would encourage you to write them down and raise them with a member of your healthcare team at your next appointment.

Tax Deductible Expenses
Some expenses incurred during your treatment may be tax deductible. We encourage you to maintain a record of your expenses and save all relevant receipts for income tax purposes.
