FIT Testing

The fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is a screening test for people at average risk of getting colorectal cancer. FIT is now used instead of the guaiac fecal occult blood test (gFOBT), which used to be Ontario’s colorectal cancer screening test.
To ensure patients who receive a FIT-positive test result receive rapid access to a colonoscopy, THP has implemented a centralized referral system to streamline intake and scheduling of FIT-positive colonoscopy procedures at the hospital. Please send all FIT-positive referrals to: 905-813-2617

Eligibility for FIT-positive colonoscopy:

As per Cancer Care Ontario’s guidelines, patients referred for a FIT-positive colonoscopy must be 50 – 74 years old and have not received a previous colonoscopy within the last 5 years. A physician referral is required.

For Patients:

Please remember to bring the following to your appointment:

  • A list of their current medications to the procedure date
  • A friend or family member who can drive you to and from the appointment
  • Please contact the clinic if you require any accommodations or accessibility needs
