 High School Student Program

The High School Student Program is an excellent opportunity for students to explore the healthcare field and gain valuable life skills. The minimum age required is 15 years.

High school students (aged 15+) are welcome to apply during one of our two recruitment periods. For summer placements, applications can be submitted in February/March. For fall/winter placements, applications can be submitted in August/September. Please note that fall/winter intake is extremely limited. If you have been accepted into the Summer Program you do not need to reapply for the Fall/Winter Program unless you have been instructed otherwise.

Applications must be submitted online during one of our recruitment periods. Those selected for an interview will be contacted via email. Please check your junk mail and spam folders regularly for our correspondence. If you have not heard back from us by the next recruitment period, you are welcome to reapply. High school student applications will not be carried over to the next recruitment period.

Fall/Winter Program:
Applicants should be available for one 2 to 4 hour shift on a regular weekly basis for the duration of the school year (September – June). Documentation of volunteer hours will not be provided until a minimum of 60 hours has been completed. A greater weekly commitment will be required for the summer program.

Summer Program:
Applicants should be available:

  • Monday-Friday for a 2 to 4 hour shift for either the entire month of July OR August
  • OR

  • Saturday & Sunday for a 2 to 4 hour for both July AND August

Documentation of volunteer hours will not be provided until your commitment has been fulfilled.

Please keep in mind that the high school program is highly competitive. While we strive to accept as many applicants as possible, there are a limited number of positions available. Regretfully, not everyone who submits an application will be contacted for an interview. If you do not hear from us, we invite you to reapply during the next recruitment period.

To become a Trillium Health Partners volunteer you must:

  • Be 15 years of age or older
  • Submit an online application
  • Attend an in-person interview

Upon acceptance as a volunteer you will be required to:

  • Attend an orientation
  • Submit two reference forms (will be provided upon acceptance)
  • Completed the Health Surveillance Clearance Form (will be provided upon acceptance)
  • Sign a Volunteer Agreement and Confidentiality Agreement
  • Attend training sessions related to your volunteer placement

Since many positions involve contact with people (staff, visitors and patients), excellent customer service and communication skills are required. Initiative, compassion and professionalism are also highly valued.
