Board Members – 2017-2018

John McKenzie

John started as a volunteer in the Cancer Centre at the Credit Valley Hospital site and later assumed the role of co-facilitator of the orientation program for new volunteers. Since joining the Board in 2006, in addition to being responsible for Strategic Planning, John has participated in a wide variety of initiatives that have contributed to the evolution of the Board which exists today. John’s extensive Sales and Marketing background includes past positions at Stanley Tools and Moen faucets. Currently, John is with Panasonic Canada.

Harvinder Matharu

This is Harvinder’s seventh year serving on the board. Harvinder has been the Plant Manager – Canadian Operations for Valvoline Canada for the past 20 years, and has been a volunteer at the Credit Valley Hospital site in several areas including the ER and the Ronald McDonald Family Room. Harvinder previously oversaw the Volunteer Excellence (Rounding) program..

Sandra Pereira

Sandra joined the board in 2014 as Director of Volunteer Leadership.  She has led the Youth Scholarship Committee of the Board for the past two years.   She is married with four children who were all born at Credit Valley Hospital, and her children have been youth volunteers at THP. Sandra was on the Board of Mentor College for seven years and is currently also on the Board of the Mississauga Living Arts Centre. Sandra is a CPA, CA and is currently Senior VP & Global Head of Tax Affairs at Tricon Capital Group.

Mehak Sethi

This is Mehak’s second year on the THP Volunteers’ Board as a Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. In addition to THP, Mehak also volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and United Way. Mehak is a CPA, CA and is currently a Manager in the Advisory Services at Deloitte LLP.

Ellen Lee

Ellen joined the Board in 2012.  Along with secretarial duties for the board she has participated on the Rounding Committee and Scholarship committee. She is a finance professional with a CPA, CA designation.

Director of Volunteer Excellence
Salma Ahmed

Salma is a board member overseeing the Volunteer Excellence (Rounding) Program. Salma graduated from York University and is a Social Worker by profession. Salma holds a Management position with Toronto Employment and Social Services and has over fifteen years of experience working in the public sector. In addition, Salma is a certified Life Skills Coach and is often involved in helping others achieve a work/home balance based on their own values.

Director of Marketing
Susan Black

Susan is a recent addition to the Board overseeing the Marketing function for the team.  Susan has been in the technology sector for over twenty years in various sales/marketing management roles. Susan is currently the Director of IT and Security Solutions at Panasonic handling all Sales and Marketing strategies for these B2B businesses. She has been with Panasonic for fourteen (14) years.  Susan’s vision for Marketing is to advance communications through multiple avenues including social media to build awareness about the volunteer experience and ongoing fund raising events.

Director Fundraising & Event Management
Vinnie Young

This is Vinnie’s second year overseeing the fundraising program of the Board. Vinnie has more than ten years of experience in the not-for-profit and fundraising environment. Vinnie has a graduate degree in Public Accounting and has previously volunteered with Lighthouse for Grieving Children

Member At Large
Debbie Abela

Debbie is a member on the board.  Debbie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at York University and has a diploma in Human Resources Management from Sheridan College.  She is an active member with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA).  Debbie has over 18 years work experience in HR and Finance specializing in various industries including, logistics and supply chain, diamonds and jewelry as well the development of high performance products.  She is currently the Director of HR for Cervélo Cycles Inc.

Liz Beemer

Liz joined the Board in 2014 and is an active member of the Board supporting several different fundraising initiatives. Liz has over 20 years of executive experience in the corporate sector and currently holds the position of SVP Country Division Head of Bayer Inc. Consumer Health Division. Liz lives in Mississauga and both her daughters were born at the Credit Valley Hospital site.

Carolyn Goodwin

Carolyn is a new member on the board. She is a CPA, CGA who is currently a Manager of the Student Recruitment Team at the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario.  Carolyn also holds a position on the Patient Family Advisory Council for The Scarborough Hospital Renal Program.

Member At Large
Rohit joined the board in 2016 and currently resides in Mississauga. He is a finance professional with over 15 years of experience across a variety of industries and is a MBA, CPA, CMA. Currently as a Finance Director with Essendant, Rohit leads all finance and accounting aspects of Essendant's business in Canada. Both of his sons were born at the Credit Valley Hospital.

Youth Representative
Sachin Dos
Sachin joined the Board in 2015. Sachin is the Youth Representative for the Credit Valley Hospital site. Sachin volunteered at the Credit Valley site for five years in a variety of roles – most recently as a Youth Team Leader. Currently, Sachin is a student in the MD Program at the University of Toronto, which is closely affiliated with the teaching programs at Trillium Health Partners.

Andriy Katy
Andriy has been an active volunteer at Trillium Health Partners for over five years. He is a Youth Team Leader at the Mississauga Hospital site and joined the board as a Youth Representative in 2015. He is currently attending Western University, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Medical Sciences with an Honours Specialization in Physiology. Andriy is passionate about student government and medical research, and is a student researcher at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. He hopes to pursue a career in medicine in the future. In addition to his role at THP, he also serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the University Students’ Council at Western University.
