Possible construction activity on Saturdays

While the majority of construction work for the two long-term care homes on Speakman Drive is scheduled to take place during the day between 7am-7pm, Monday to Friday, there will be some instances where work needs to be done outside of this timeframe. In order to stay on schedule for this project, construction activities may also take place on Saturdays, beginning February 20.

Work that may take place on Saturdays includes, but is not limited to: drilling, excavation, foundation work and installing new site services. This work may generate noise, vibration and some dust. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Caisson drilling to begin week of February 22

As shared at our virtual town halls in January, the noisiest portion of the project’s construction (caisson drilling – used for the structural foundation) is scheduled to start in February and will continue for approximately two months. This work is set to begin next week.

Province announces zoning order to support construction of 640 long-term care beds in Mississauga

Ontario’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing filed an Enhanced Minister Zoning Order (EMZO) on August 31, 2020, to support the construction of the long-term care project at 2210 Speakman Drive in Mississauga within the next 14 months.

The EMZO is part of the Ontario’s government’s ‘Accelerated Build Pilot Program’, led by Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Long-Term Care, that will speed up the construction of long-term care homes and address the urgent need in this community to accommodate seniors in a safe and healthy setting. This allows for faster access to long-term care for the people of Mississauga, and relieves pressure at Trillium Health Partners’ (THP) hospital sites.

Tree Contractor on site August 22, 2020

THP’s contractor, Maple Hill Tree Services, will be on site on August 22 to remove a dead tree down to trunk level as well as some of its limbs. This action is in response to a resident in the neighbourhood who informed us a dead tree had fallen on the Speakman Drive property (not near the work site). The contractor will also assess whether other trees need to be removed. Going forward, we will be working with Infrastructure Ontario to discuss a fulsome review of all trees on the property.

We will continue to share information as it becomes available. As always, we welcome all of your questions and comments, and are committed to working together throughout this development. Please send your questions to

Pre-construction activity on site in August/September 2020

In late August and early September, increased activity will be taking place at 2210 Speakman Drive, the future site of 640 long-term care beds, as part of the Ontario government’s Accelerated Build Pilot Program.

On-site activities will include:

  • Site visits by hospital staff and our partners to gather information about the site and the conditions of the existing ground (early land assessment and surveying, field clearing and drilling)
  • These activities are all part of the planning and due diligence process that will help inform design and construction
  • We expect this pre-construction activity to have minimal impact on the surrounding neighbourhood. Minimal amounts of noise and dust will be generated by field clearing and drilling that will take place in late August and early September
