 Regional Cancer Program

A Message from the Regional Vice President

2020 has certainly been a challenging year. Thank you to our region’s leaders and healthcare providers for their tireless and unwavering efforts towards delivering exceptional and compassionate care to those impacted by cancer in our region. It is with my deepest gratitude that I thank them for their ongoing commitment and dedication throughout such challenging times.

In 2021, we will be developing and implementing a regional recovery response that proactively addresses the ongoing impacts of COVID-19. By tackling this challenge thoughtfully and in close collaboration with our partners, we will help ensure access to cancer services and the delivery of high quality care for the community we serve.

In addition to our region’s COVID-19 response, our hospital partners will also be working on important process and quality improvements in the coming year, including: radiation capacity planning, smoking cessation program expansion, implementing HPV testing, and exploring virtual consult models. We will also be relaunching our regional webpage to provide information and resources to better meet the needs of our patients, families, physicians and partners in our region. Lastly, we look forward to refreshing our regional Strategic Plan, in alignment with the Ontario Cancer Plan (OCP 5). Combined, these initiatives will help to increase capacity and improve access to high quality cancer care.

I am so proud of the work our region is doing and what we have accomplished thus far. It is an honour and a privilege to work together with our leaders and healthcare providers to provide safe, compassionate, quality care for our patients, their family members, caregivers and loved ones.

On behalf of the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program and the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we will improve cancer care in our region.

Our Priorities & Strategic Plans

MHCW Regional Cancer Program Strategic Plan 2018-2020
The MHCW Regional Cancer Program Strategic Plan 2018-2020 serves as a guide for the delivery of our cancer care services, in collaboration with our partner hospitals and many community partners. The Strategic Plan is currently being refreshed, in alignment with Ontario Cancer Plan 5. Click here to read our 2018-2020 Strategic Plan.

Ontario Cancer Plan 5 (OCP 5)
Since 2005, multi-year provincial cancer plans have led to improvements in the quality and performance of Ontario’s cancer system. Ontario Cancer Plan 2019–2023 builds on that solid foundation. It provides a road map for how Cancer Care Ontario, the Regional Cancer Programs, health system partners, and, in time, Ontario Health will work together to reduce Ontarians’ risk of developing cancer and improve outcomes for those affected by cancer.
