Update to THP’s Masking Policy – October 5, 2023

Effective Thursday, October 5, 2023, Trillium Health Partners (THP) reinstated masking for everyone in all patient care areas, including waiting rooms. ​This is due to the rising transmission and outbreak activity of respiratory viruses at THP and is intended to protect patients and staff and to maintain the health of our workforce. It also aligns with the practice of other Ontario hospitals.

Masking in non-patient care areas, such as public spaces and administrative areas, is optional and these spaces continue to be mask-friendly.

Masks are available at main entrances of each hospital site and in patient care areas.​

THP continues to monitor respiratory illness in our hospitals and communities and will make changes to masking policies as needed.




Update to THP’s Masking Policy – July 5, 2023

Effective Wednesday, July 5, THP will be moving to a mask-friendly approach. For patients and visitors, masking will be encouraged and recommended, but no longer mandatory.

THP supports a mask-friendly environment and masks will continue to be available at all hospital entrances. We understand masking is a personal choice, and we encourage you to continue masking if it makes you feel most comfortable.

Before visiting the hospital, please self-monitor for respiratory symptoms. If you are experiencing respiratory symptoms and can tolerate wearing a mask, please do so. Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask while in busy waiting rooms and emergency departments.

THP continues to monitor respiratory illness in our hospitals and communities and will make changes to masking policies as needed.

Update to THP’s Masking Policy – June 9, 2022

On June 8, the Chief Medical Officer of Health announced that on June 11, Ontario will lift most of its remaining provincial masking directives.

Although this directive is being removed, organizations such as hospitals will continue to have the authority to keep these requirements in place to support the safest environment to deliver and receive care.

To deliver the highest-quality care and protect patients, their families and our staff, masks will continue to be required for visitors to Trillium Health Partners (THP) as well as our own staff. As we continue to care for vulnerable patient populations, keeping our masking policy in place is a vital part of our ongoing pandemic response.

We ask that visitors please continue to wash and sanitize their hands often, and maintain physical distancing when possible. Visitors should self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms and avoid coming to THP if they’re feeling unwell, have been exposed to COVID-19 or have tested positive in the last 10 days.

We will continue to monitor this evolving situation and provide updates, when required. We thank the community for their patience, cooperation and continued dedication to keeping patients, staff and each other, safe.

Update to THP’s Temporary Visitor Policy – July 6, 2022

At Trillium Health Partners, we understand that one of the most important relationships is the one between people, their families, and friends. In response to the evolving situation around COVID-19, THP is making amendments to its temporary visitor policy.

We are pleased to welcome back more visitors back to THP. Beginning July 6, visiting is open to all individuals who meet screening guidelines. Visiting is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Each admitted patient may welcome up to two visitors at a time. Patients visiting the Emergency Department or an Outpatient Clinic may invite one person to support them during their visit. Appointments will no longer be required.

Some areas may have additional guidelines in place, while still maintaining visiting principles for select patient groups (e.g. Labour and Delivery, Mental Health, etc.).

In alignment with Ministry of Health guidelines, beginning July 6 THP will no longer require visitors to provide proof of vaccination prior to entering the hospital.

Visiting may be interrupted to provide appropriate patient care and may be restricted to protect the privacy of other patients or to maintain safety.

Overnight Visitors

We know the support of family and friends is important, which is why we welcome visits every day, at all hours.

If you are visiting your loved one at Credit Valley Hospital or Mississauga Hospital between the hours of 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. please enter through the Emergency Department.

We ask all visitors to respect the needs of our patients to have a quiet, restful space for healing by minimizing noise while on the patient care unit.

All visitors must:

  • Actively self-screen for symptoms of illness prior to visiting the hospital by confirming you have:
    • No symptoms of COVID-19
    • No close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 positive case within the past 10 days
    • Not travelled outside Canada within the last 10 days and have not been advised to quarantine per federal quarantine requirements
    • Not been told to stay home by a health care provider or public health
  • Wear a mask at all times. Visitors are required to wear a mask that provides a high level of protection (e.g. medical mask). A mask will also be provided to all visitors to wear while they are in the hospital.
  • Wash and sanitize hands frequently
  • Maintain a physical distance when possible
  • Stay at the patient’s bedside and do not visit other clinical or common areas, except to use a public bathroom
  • Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult

If a visitor becomes unwell after leaving the hospital, they must contact the unit/department they visited, as well as their health care provider or Telehealth Ontario.

If a visitor develops COVID-like symptoms or/and tests positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of visiting the hospital, they must contact the unit they visited. Reporting COVID-like symptoms or a positive test helps us conduct contact tracing and determine if inpatient and staff testing is required. Reporting keeps everyone safe and could help save lives.

It is important to follow all visiting guidelines to help keep all patients, staff and visitors safe. Failure to follow the visiting guidelines may result in certain visitors being no longer able to visit. Virtual visits can be coordinated by contacting the patient's clinical unit.

The COVID-19 vaccine is the best protection against the virus. We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated as soon as possible to help protect yourself, your loved ones and your community.

Patients visiting an Outpatient Clinic or the Emergency Department may invite one person to support them during their visit.

We understand admitted patients may need certain belongings from home during their stay. If you wish to deliver belongings to an admitted patient, you may do so at any time of day by visiting the unit directly. THP is no longer requiring visitors to schedule visiting appointments.

During a visit, you may also bring food for your loved one. Please note, you cannot heat or keep food in a fridge at the hospital, and you must remove all perishable food (including containers) from the patient’s room at the end of the visit.

We ask that you kindly do not bring any flowers or plants to the hospital. Infection prevention and control guidelines strongly discourage plants and/or flowers in patient rooms to prevent the transmission of infectious bacteria. Please only leave the patient’s essential belongings in the room to keep patient rooms clean and clutter-free.
