Preclerkship/Foundations - For more Preclerkship/Foundations information, please visit the University of Toronto, MD Program.

The first two years of the University of Toronto MD Program is called Preclerkship/Foundations with students learning in diverse settings including classrooms for lectures and seminars, in community settings and at the bedside. Students at this level are under the direct supervision of a licensed staff physician when interacting with patients.

Clerkship - For more Clerkship information, please visit the University of Toronto, MD Program.

Clerkship comprises the last two years of the University of Toronto four year MD program.  Clerkship is an integrated learning experience that further develops the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes introduced to medical students in preclerkship/foundations.  During clerkship, medical students learn to care for patients through practical application in clinical settings both in hospital, at community-based clinics and doctors’ offices as part of a health care team. Students in this classification  are involved in direct patient care and function as a part of our patients’ health care team.
