Who We Are

Our Story

Chantel’s Place was opened in November 1998 in partnership with Peel Regional Police (PRP) and with generous donations from community members and organizations.

Our space is a private, secure area that provides a supportive atmosphere for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, or human trafficking.

All staff at Chantel’s Place validate the experience for victims and survivors, and provide care in a sensitive, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner. The delivery of care and treatment is provided in a safe space that is separate from the emergency department.

Our Values
At Chantel's Place, our goal is to offer compassionate, confidential, and sensitive care to any survivor that comes to our space. We provide a safe space for all sexual orientations and gender identities.

  • We are here to genuinely listen and validate your experiences.
  • We provide care and support with respect and without judgment.
  • We help and empower you to make informed decisions.
  • We will support you as you move forward.

Our Team

We are a team of specialized nurses and social workers who provide care to people of any age, gender, or sexual identity experiencing sexual assault, sex trafficking, and/or domestic violence.

Our patients are seen by registered nurses (RNs) and specially trained sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) who provide care on an emergency basis. A follow-up clinic is run during the week by an RN and a nurse practitioner (NP).

The SANE’s practice within guidelines set out by the Ministry of Health.

The team also has registered social workers, available to provide one-on-one counselling support to clients during our operating hours. Our social workers are trained in sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as provide trauma counselling and help with safety planning or referrals to community agencies.
