Overview
Trillium Health Partners (THP) is a member of the Neurosurgery Education and Outreach Network (NEON), which is a
neurosurgery education support program.
NEON is comprised of Neurosurgery Nurse Educators, Advanced Practice Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists from each of the 13 neurosurgery centres in Ontario. THP (specifically, at the Mississauga Hospital site), is the regional neurosurgical centre for the Mississauga-Halton and Central West regions. These regions include Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, Orangeville, Caledon, and north Etobicoke. NEON at THP works closely with the non-neurosurgical centres within these regions who care for patients with neurosurgical needs.
Aligned with the priorities identified by the Neurosurgery System Planning Working Group (NSPWG) and the Provincial Neurosurgery Advisory Committee (PNAC), NEON provides support to the non-neurosurgical centres within the Mississauga-Halton and Central West regions in the following ways:
- Planning and implementing neurosurgery system-wide improvements through education and outreach;
- Addressing gaps in skills and knowledge; and
- Improving access and patient flow between neurosurgery and non-neurosurgery centres.
NEON also works collaboratively with Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO), which is the managing body responsible for the overall program implementation of initiatives of the Ontario Critical Care Strategy, on provincial opportunities for system improvement initiatives.
Below is the organizational chart that highlights the reporting relationship of NEON within the CCSO advisory structure for neurosurgery:
