Latest Updates on Patient Care Services

Update to THP’s Masking Policy – October 5, 2023

Effective Thursday, October 5, 2023, Trillium Health Partners (THP) reinstated masking for everyone in all patient care areas, including waiting rooms. This is due to the rising transmission and outbreak activity of respiratory viruses at THP and is intended to protect patients and staff and to maintain the health of our workforce. It also aligns with the practice of other Ontario hospitals.

Masking in non-patient care areas, such as public spaces and administrative areas, is optional and these spaces continue to be mask-friendly.

Masks are available at main entrances of each hospital site and in patient care areas.

THP continues to monitor respiratory illness in our hospitals and communities and will make changes to masking policies as needed.

BORN Ontario Cybersecurity Incident

BORN Ontario is a prescribed perinatal and child registry that is funded by the province’s Ministry of Health. BORN Ontario was the victim of a cybersecurity incident earlier this year and your information may have been impacted. The incident was caused by a vulnerability in the file transfer software BORN Ontario utilized, called MOVEit.

We are among the many Ontario healthcare providers that share personal health information with BORN Ontario related to pregnancy, birth and newborn care – important healthcare encounters that can affect lifelong health. BORN collects data from healthcare providers pursuant to the authority afforded to it in the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). BORN Ontario uses this information to identify immediate care gaps affecting individuals, link information to appropriate care providers, perform health system quality assurance, and analyze data for emerging trends.

For specific details about the incident, and to find out if your or someone in your family’s information may have been impacted, please visit the BORN Ontario website www.bornincident.ca

Temporary Relocation of Mississauga Hospital’s Paediatric Unit

The healthcare system that cares for children is feeling the strain of an increased number of children who are sick and require hospitalization. Due to these pressures and ongoing province-wide staffing challenges, the Paediatric Unit at Mississauga Hospital has been temporarily consolidated with Credit Valley Hospital (CVH) and all care for our inpatient paediatric patients is now being delivered at CVH. By working together on one site, our clinical teams have been able to keep the same number of beds open to support children and families in need. Our Emergency Department at Mississauga Hospital remains open to paediatric patients, and should admission be required, arrangements will be made for a transfer to CVH for care. We want to assure you that this has not decreased access to high quality care in our community and region and we are committed to working together as one system to ensure that our children, and all patients, receive the care they need.

Suspension of COVID-19 Assessment Centre at Credit Valley Hospital

Effective March 27, 2022, Trillium Health Partners (THP) has suspended operations of its COVID-19 Assessment Centre at Credit Valley Hospital.

THP has supported COVID-19 testing in Mississauga throughout the pandemic. During the latest wave of the pandemic, in alignment with government direction, the THP Assessment Centre prioritized testing for THP staff and THP patients, and was not testing members of the public.

Closing the Assessment Centre will enable THP to focus on service recovery and reassign staff from the Assessment Centre to other areas at THP where health human resources remain a concern.

COVID-19 testing options continue to be available in the community. Please check the Government of Ontario’s COVID-19 clinical assessment and testing page for eligibility and testing locations.

Select Oncology Services Moved to the Queensway Health Centre

Effective Monday, March 21 select outpatient oncology services, including some clinics and some chemotherapy services, will be provided at the Queensway Health Centre as part of Trillium Health Partners’ (THP) Integrated Oncology Program. THP temporarily moved all oncology services to the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre at Credit Valley Hospital (CVH) in April 2020 as part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

THP will continue to provide cancer services at CVH as we expand care to the Queensway Health Centre to help ensure we are able to provide patients with high quality, timely and accessible care close to home. Radiation Therapy, select Oncology Clinics and some Chemotherapy services will continue to be provided at CVH. Please visit the Oncology webpage for more information.

Update on surgeries and procedures at Trillium Health Partners

In alignment with guidance from Ontario Health, Trillium Health Partners is taking a careful, phased approach to resume non-urgent surgeries and non-urgent ambulatory care services that were temporarily paused during the pandemic.

We have begun a gradual resumption of planned surgeries. As part of this planning, we will also continue a phased recovery plan across non-urgent ambulatory care services.

Throughout this time, we continue to perform urgent, emergency and priority oncology surgeries and provide critical ambulatory care including dialysis, oncology and mental health services.

We know the pause in services has been a concern for many of our patients and families, and appreciate their patience and understanding as we continue to respond to the pandemic.

Update to THP’s Temporary Visitor Policy

At Trillium Health Partners, we understand that one of the most important relationships is the one between people, their families, and friends. In response to the evolving situation around COVID-19, THP has made changes to its temporary visitor policy.

We are pleased to welcome back more visitors back to THP. As of March 1, visiting is open to all individuals who meet screening guidelines. Each patient will be able to have up to two visitors at a time for a maximum of two hours each day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Visits should continue to be scheduled in advance.

Some exceptions apply for Specific Patient Populations. For more information, please see Visiting THP & Connecting with Patients.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all visitors at THP. For more information, please see the Proof of Vaccination Requirements

Mandatory Staff Vaccination at Trillium Health Partners

To ensure the safest possible environment to work and deliver care to the community we serve, COVID-19 vaccination is now mandatory for all THP staff, professional staff, volunteers and learners. This excludes those with an approved medical exemption or accommodation. This new policy took effect on September 7, 2021, with a 6 week implementation period until October 20, 2021. As one of the hardest hit communities during this pandemic and because of the proven effectiveness of the vaccine against the virus and its variants, we encourage everyone who is eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.

Closure of Queensway Urgent Care

Queensway Health Centre’s Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is temporarily closed. Our hospital services remain disrupted by the pandemic and we are continuing to experience staffing challenges. This means our recovery will be slower than hospitals in other communities.

As we plan for the eventual reopening of urgent care services at THP, we will use the learnings from the pandemic to reimagine, redefine, and enhance our approach to urgent care so we are able to deliver services in new and innovative ways that are aligned with the needs of the community.

Patients requiring emergency care are being asked to go to their nearest Emergency Department or call 911.

Designated Hospital Entrances

For your safety, patients are being asked to enter through designated entrances, which will be staffed by screeners who will conduct a short verbal health assessment survey. Please refer to the maps below for information on how to access our facilities:
